Open Exploration

Open Exploration times are free; with the exception of Tech Makerspace which has a materials fee based on the activity.

  1. Digital & Esports Exploration: Explore, play, and discover in our Computer Labs and Gaming Lounge during scheduled open times each week. The Digital Lab is open to students in grades 3 and up, offering access to a wide range of games and digital activities – adult supervision is required. The Esports Computer Lab is available for grades 5 and up, giving older students a chance to experience gaming on high-performance equipment. This is an unstaffed activity, so younger participants must be accompanied and supervised by a parent.

  2. Maker Lab: The Maker Lab offers open, creative exploration for all ages with access to building materials, crafting supplies, and hands-on tools. From constructing with Legos and K’Nex to painting, gluing, cutting, or designing your own craft projects, this unstaffed space encourages imagination, experimentation, and open-ended making. Whether you're building, crafting, or simply exploring new materials, the Maker Lab in our Messy Makerspace is the perfect place to create! Elementary-aged children must be supervised by an adult.

  3. Open Robotics: Open Robotics Time invites participants of all ages to experiment with robotics and coding. Build and program with LEGO Spike robots, or explore movement and coding using Dash, Sphero, or RVR robots. This open session encourages creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on exploration with technology. Elementary-aged students must be supervised by an adult.

  4. Tech Makerspace Open Access: Gain hands-on access to complete personal projects using a wide range of tools and equipment in the Tech Makerspace. Participants ages 13 and up can work independently with resources such as sewing machines, soldering irons, 3D printers, the sublimation printer, laser cutter, and more. Select equipment requires prior STEAM Center Tech Makerspace Safety Training completion to ensure safe and confident use. This open-access experience is ideal for creators ready to design, build, and explore at their own pace.
