School Field Trips
Field Trips
Bring your students to the Bledsoe-Miller STEAM Center for hands-on STEAM learning experiences designed to support classroom instruction and spark curiosity.
Field trips are open to public, private, charter, and homeschool groups with a minimum of 10 students. One adult chaperone for every 10 students required.
Each field trip includes:
- A two-hour field trip experience with four hands-on STEAM learning stations
- Standards-aligned activities connected to Texas science and math curriculum
- Activities facilitated by Bledsoe-Miller STEAM Center staff
- Outdoor lunch area available
Limited availability; reservations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Fall Field Trips
Pirate Quest
Grades 1–3
Join the Pirate Science Crew in an immersive adventure where young explorers use real science skills to solve mysteries of the sea through hands-on investigation and engineering design. Students become pirate scientists as they launch cannonballs, retrieve treasure, engineer ships, and design treasure chests.

Colossal Fossil Finds
Grades 2–5
Travel back in time to uncover the secrets of Earth’s past! Students will explore fossils, sedimentary rocks, and fossil fuels through hands-on challenges and immersive investigations that reveal how ancient life and natural resources are preserved. This experience pairs perfectly with a field trip to the Waco Mammoth National Monument, where students can continue exploring fossils and evidence of prehistoric life.

Electrical Engineers in Action
Grades 4–5, with 6th grade review
Join the Energy Engineers Crew in a high-voltage adventure where students investigate how energy transforms and moves through the world and outer space by building, testing, and troubleshooting real electrical systems. Students explore squishy circuits, solve circuit mystery challenges, and design green energy solutions.

Texas Land Lab
Grades 1–5
Join the Texas Land Lab Crew in a hands-on Earth science adventure where students investigate how wind, water, ice, and natural disasters shape and reshape our planet’s surface. Students become geoscientists as they model canyons, design clay landforms, and explore rapid surface changes through simulations.

Artemis: Mission to the Moon
Grades K–8
Blast off on an action-packed field trip filled with hands-on challenges, creative building, and discoveries about space exploration. From launching and landing missions to exploring the Moon’s surface, students think like engineers, scientists, and astronauts as they complete their lunar mission.
Curiosity Carnival
Grades 6–8
Step into Carnival Science, where students explore chemistry and physics through hands-on, carnival-themed challenges. Students investigate chemical reactions by creating carnival monsters, explore surface tension through boat races, investigate speed as they code through a putt-putt course, and test the laws of motion by building and playing LEGO carnival games.

Creatures of the Night
Grades: PK-2, 3-5
Description: Explore the fascinating world of nocturnal animals through hands-on STEAM activities focused on animal behaviors, adaptations, needs, traits, and their role within ecosystems. Students will investigate food chains, habitats, and survival strategies through engaging science, robotics, and engineering challenges.

Extreme Weather
Grades: 1-4 (Review for 5th)
Description: Get ready to investigate the power of weather! During this hands-on field trip, students will explore how scientists observe, measure, and track weather patterns while uncovering the science behind extreme weather events. Through interactive challenges and investigations, students will compare weather conditions, explore severe weather, and discover how weather impacts the choices we make every day. Students will leave with a better understanding of weather, climate, and the forces that shape our world.

Stargazers: Unlocking the Secrets of Space
Grades: 6-8
Description: Blast off on a journey through the cosmos! Students will explore the forces that shape our solar system, investigate what makes Earth unique, and uncover the mysteries of stars, galaxies, and celestial objects through hands-on STEAM investigations. Students will discover how scientists use evidence and observations to explore the wonders of space.

Design Lab
Grades: 1-8
Description: Put engineering skills to the test as students tackle hands-on design challenges inspired by the real work of engineers! Students will use their understanding of force and motion to design, build, test, and improve solutions while applying the engineering design process. Through creative problem-solving and innovation, students will discover how engineers use science to create solutions that make objects move, work, and perform better.

Maker Studio
Grades: 1-12
Description: Unleash creativity and bring ideas to life in the Maker Studio! Students will explore hands-on maker challenges using a variety of materials, tools, and techniques to design and create one-of-a-kind projects. With imagination as their guide, students will build, craft, and customize unique creations to take home as a reminder of their maker experience. Please note that this special field trip can only accomodate 40 students per a visit.
